This chart shows just how heavy the toll of World War II was on Louisiana.  Nearly 4,000 men and women died.

An abbreviation explanation:

KIA=killed in action

DOW=died of wounds

DOI=died of injuries

DNB=died, nonbattle (sickness, homicide, suicide, accidents)

FOD=finding of death

M=missing

Breaking that down, 2.36% of the Louisiana men and women who went to war never returned home.
